Melanie’s dance journey started with classical ballet at the age of four. There, she excelled, attaining a Distinction in the Advanced One exam under The Royal Academy of Dance. A talented and skilled dancer, Melanie also holds an Honours Plus in Jazz from the Grade 3 Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD). In her teens, she began to explore other dance styles such as contemporary and street dance, joining the prestigious T.H.E. Youth Dance Company at the age of 17. She also joined the Temasek Polytechnic Dance Ensemble (TPDE), of which she now dances on the alumni team.
As a dancer, Melanie’s talents certainly have not been overlooked. In 2005, she was awarded the Dance Scholarship at St. James College of the Arts (NZ). Her other accolades include being awarded the Best Female Dancer in O School Recital (2009). She has also danced at many important events such as the Asian Youth Games (2010) and the inaugural Youth Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Singapore. She also represented Singapore at the Shanghai International Children’s Cultural and Arts Festival in 2007, and the 10th International Youth Dance festival in Macau in 2009.
An experienced instructor, Melanie taught ballet at Crestar School of Dance from the age of 15 and has sent numerous students for CSTD ballet exams. She is also the resident instructor at Bedok View Secondary School, and most recently co-led them to achieve the Certificate of Accomplishment at the Singapore Youth Festival 2013.
Melanie aims to be an established performer and teacher, touching as many lives in as many ways possible.
